Nara Dreamland is an abandoned theme park in Japan, with all its roller-coasters and rides still standing. The park opened in 1961, inspired by Disneyland in California. For
45 years its central fantasy castle, the massive wooden rollercoaster, the Aska, and corkscrewing Screwcoaster was successful. In 2001, Universal Studios Japan opened in nearby Osaka, sucking the business out of Nara Dreamland with its bigger and brighter features. Nara closed its doors
permanently in 2006.
