The Rio Tinto or "The red river", is a river in Andalusia, Spain. It
originates in the Sierra Morena mountains and flows into the Gulf of
Cádiz in Huelva. The area is rich in minerals and heavily mined, leaving the Red River contaminated with with minerals - especially iron. The heavy concentration of iron is what causes the reddish color of the river and the surrounding vegetation.
