Immersion foot, also called Trench Foot is a painful disorder of the foot involving damage to the skin, nerves,
and muscle that is caused by prolonged exposure to cold dampness or by
prolonged immersion in cold water. Trench foot causes feet to hurt, swell, and feel heavy. Advanced trench foot often involves blisters and open sores, which lead to fungal infections; this is sometimes called tropical ulcer or jungle rot.
